šØ BRUNO GUIMARAES LEAVES FOR ARSENAL, NEWCASTLE LOSES ANOTHER TALISMAN IN TEARFUL EXIT
7 August 2026, 16:51
š THE FULL PICTURE:
Bruno Guimaraes said goodbye to his teammates with tears in his eyes before walking out of Newcastle's pre-season camp in Spain. He's the fourth big name gone in less than a year. Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon already bounced to Tottenham and Barcelona, and Alexander Isak left for Liverpool last summer. Newcastle's CEO David Hopkinson admitted Arsenal hoped to pay less, but Newcastle wanted more for their talisman. He says the fee works for both sides, even calling it a record for a player in that position at that age. Now Newcastle are hunting for a replacement, someone with a little more experience, but Wilson says they won't rush into a move just to check a box.
š MY TAKE:
This one stings. Guimaraes was the heart and soul of that midfield, and watching him go after all those other exits? That's a massive blow. But Newcastle didn't fold, they held out for their number. Arsenal are getting a special player, no doubt. The real question is who steps up now. They're signing young guys left and right, but you need a veteran presence in the middle. Don't panic-buy, though. That's how you screw up a rebuild. Stay patient, Newcastle.
