🚨 HIGHANDERS FINANCIALLY IN THE RED: US$173K DEFICIT, TECHNICALLY INSOLVENT

21 July 2026, 16:45
📝 THE FULL PICTURE: Highlanders just dropped their financial report, and dude, it’s rough. The Bulawayo giants pulled in over US$833,000 in revenue, but they spent more than a million bucks - a US$173,878 deficit. They’re technically insolvent, with liabilities at US$1.04 million against assets of only US$618,478. That negative net position of nearly US$425,000 is wild. Even crazier: 73 percent of their income came from donations, with Wicknell Chivayo alone dropping US$473,142. Traditional sponsorship collapsed from US$155,796 to just US$8,115. Gate takings were strong at US$446,538, but after deductions the club kept only US$161,699. The league champions get a US$100,000 prize - not even close to covering a million-dollar season. 💭 MY TAKE: This is the harsh reality check Zimbabwean football needed. How do you run a club when your biggest sponsor is a generous businessman and match-day costs eat two-thirds of your gate money? Highlanders are a giant, but they’re barely staying afloat. Without serious commercial backing or a bigger league payout, this is unsustainable. Fans show up, but that alone won’t fix the balance sheet. Something’s gotta give.
